After 22 days, 3965 soft resets, and 2185 minutes — or 36h26m — I finally got my shiny starter to literally kick off my ultimate save file in Pokémon SoulSilver, complete with RetroAchievements, every item collected, and all mechanics fully explored.

I decided to get a cool Trainer ID beforehand — it took me 1h 24m to land on 00005. Then, from August 27th to September 18th, I kept hunting until my Cyndaquil finally shone. It’s even Modest — can you believe my luck?! Its IV spread is 9 HP / 30 Atk / 18 Def / 7 SpA / 27 SpD / 30 Spe.
